October 15: Saskatchewan RCMP on scene of serious collision on Highway #41

October 15: At approximately 1:30 a.m., an officer with Meadow Lake Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS) conducted a traffic stop on 1 Avenue W. in Meadow Lake. The officer observed unstamped tobacco in the vehicle and the adult male driver and adult female passenger were arrested.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located and seized approximately 13 grams of cocaine, a sum of cash and trafficking paraphernalia in the vehicle.

As a result of continued investigation, Meadow Lake CTSS executed search warrants at two residences in Meadow Lake with the assistance of Meadow Lake RCMP and Saskatchewan RCMP's Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Team. Officers located and seized approximately 14 grams of cocaine and trafficking paraphernalia.

As a result, 53-year-old Kevin Ault from Meadow Lake is charged with:

  • one count, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, Section 5(1), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
  • one count, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code; and
  • one count, sale, possession, storage or transportation of tobacco that is not marked in prescribed manner, Section 11(1), Tobacco Tax Act.

34-year-old Cassandra Lambert from Flying Dust First Nation is charged with:

  • one count, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, Section 5(1), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; and
  • one count, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code.

Ault is scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on October 23. Lambert is scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on November 20, 2023.

October 19: Waskesiu/Montreal Lake RCMP continued to investigate an October 12 firearms incident that resulted in a dangerous persons alert on Montreal Lake Cree Nation. On October 21, 2023, they arrested an additional two adult males on Montreal Lake Cree Nation.

As a result of continued investigation, 29-year-old Justice Bird, 22-year-old Ben Bird, 28-year-old Lloyd Bird and 27-year-old Deon Smith, all from Montreal Lake Cree Nation, are each charged with:

  • one count, attempted murder, Section 239(1)(a), Criminal Code;
  • one count, robbery with firearm, Section 344(1)(a), Criminal Code;
  • one count, discharge firearm with intent, Section 244(2)(a), Criminal Code;
  • one count, aggravated assault, Section 268(2), Criminal Code; and
  • two counts, possession of firearms knowing possession is unauthorized, Section 92(1), Criminal Code.

Justice Bird is also charged with:

  • one count, pointing a firearm, Section 87, Criminal Code;
  • one count, carry concealed weapon, Section 90, Criminal Code; and
  • one count, unlicensed possession of a firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code;

Deon Smith is also charged with:

  • one count, pointing a firearm, Section 87, Criminal Code;
  • one count, carry concealed weapon, Section 90, Criminal Code; and
  • one count, unlicensed possession of a firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code;
  • three counts, possession of a firearm/ammunition while prohibited, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code;

Ben Bird is also charged with:

  • six counts, possession of a firearm/ammunition while prohibited, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code;

Lloyd Bird is also charged with:

  • one count, possession of a firearm/ammunition while prohibited, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code;

All are scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court: Ben Bird and Lloyd Bird on October 23, Justice Bird on October 25 and Deon Smith on October 30.

Saskatchewan RCMP's Prince Albert General Investigation Section, Prince Albert Forensic Identification Services, La Ronge and Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Teams, Prince Albert Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team and Police Dog Services assisted in this investigation.

October 20: Moosomin RCMP seeks public assistance to locate wanted man

October 20: At approximately 11:30 p.m., officers from Saskatchewan RCMP's Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Team (CRT) conducted a traffic stop in Meadow Lake as part of an ongoing investigation.

Officers observed open alcohol in plain view in the vehicle and the occupants were arrested. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located and seized:

  • a sawed-off semi-automatic firearm with an extended magazine;
  • ammunition; and
  • a small quantity of cocaine.

18-year-old Kane Long from Lloydminster and 38-year-old Doris Jeanine Montgrand from Meadow Lake are each charged with:

  • one count, unlicensed possession of restricted firearm with readily available ammunition, Section 95(b), Criminal Code;
  • one count, careless use of a firearm, Section 86(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, unauthorized possession of a firearm, Section 91(3), Criminal Code;
  • one count, carry concealed weapon, Section 90(2), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of firearm with tampered serial number, Section 108(2), Criminal Code.

The driver was also issued tickets for having open alcohol in a vehicle and driving without a license.

Long and Montgrand are scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on November 27, 2023.

Meadow Lake CRT continues to investigate.
