On June 7, 2022, Waskesiu/Montreal Lake RCMP received a report of a sudden death on Montreal Lake Cree Nation. 33-year-old Chad Bird's death was determined to be a homicide and Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes has been investigating since.

As a result of investigation, on October 14, 2023, 37-year-old Julian Ganton from Prince Albert was arrested in Saskatoon with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP's Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team and Saskatoon Police Service.

Ganton is charged with one count, being an accessory after the fact to murder, Section 240, Criminal Code and one count, driving while prohibited, Section 320.18(1), Criminal Code. He appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court on October 16, 2023.

On October 16, 2023, 26-year-old Tristen Naytowhow from Prince Albert was arrested in Prince Albert. He is charged with one count, second degree murder, Section 235(1), Criminal Code and one count, possession of a firearm while prohibited, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code.

He is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on October 17, 202.

The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit continues to investigate the death of Chad Duncan Bird, which has been determined to be a homicide. Chad was located deceased near House 612 on Montreal Lake Cree Nation on June 7, 2022.

His name and the location are now being released because investigators would like to speak with anyone who had contact with Chad, or was in or around House 612 on June 6 or June 7, 2022.

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit investigating suspicious death on Montreal Lake Cree Nation

On June 7, 2022 at approximately 11:50 a.m., Waskesiu/Montreal Lake RCMP received a report of a sudden death on Montreal Lake Cree Nation.

Officers located a deceased individual outside of a residence. He has been identified as a 33-year-old male from the community. His family has been notified. His name will not be released at this time.

The male's death is considered suspicious and Saskatchewan RCMP's Major Crime Unit continues to investigate.
