Barrington, Nova Scotia

News release

Barrington RCMP has determined that a threat to the Barrington Municipal High School is not legitimate.

On January 10, 2023, at approximately 10:45 a.m., Barrington RCMP responded to a report of a threat to the Barrington Municipal High School on Oak Park Rd. in Barrington. RCMP officers learned that a student had received a message via social media, from a person unknown to her; the message stated there would be a shooting at the Barrington Municipal High School at a future date.

Over the last 48 hours, RCMP officers have collected information and evidence as part of the investigation. It has been determined that the threat originated from another country and was a hoax intended to cause panic. The threat is not legitimate.

The Barrington Municipal High School will be open today, with students returning to class. There will be an RCMP presence at the school today in an effort to reassure students, parents and staff.
