On May 23, 2023, at approximately 7:20 am, Headingley RCMP received a report of male in a stairwell in possession of a firearm in a hotel on Portage Avenue in the RM of Headingley. Officers responded immediately and located the male sitting on the steps. The firearm was located next to him and seized by an officer.
The firearm was a BB gun, but falls into the category of firearm due to the modifications to the weapon and the velocity at which it fires. A search of the suspect and his belongings revealed four grams of what appears to be fentanyl and other drug paraphernalia. The male was found to be breaching several weapons conditions.
Lucien Baron, 40, of Winnipeg is charged with Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Possession of Unauthorized Firearm, Possession of a Scheduled Substance, and Breach of Release Order. He remains in custody.
When the officers attended Baron's room, another male and a female were located inside. Drug paraphernalia was present in the room. Both individuals were taken into custody. The 38-year-old female, Dawn Lavand, was wanted on a warrant for assault. The male was later released without charges.
The investigation continues.
