On Jan. 19, 2022, an off duty RCMP officer observed a white pickup truck travelling well in excess of the posted speed limit on Highway 16. On duty Vermilion RCMP were advised, and the vehicle was located parked at a lounge in the town of Vermilion where a traffic stop was conducted. Additional support from Kitscoty RCMP, Vermilion Traffic Services and the Eastern Alberta District RCMP Crime Reduction Unit responded to the scene.
The vehicle was occupied by two females who had a sawed off shotgun on the passenger seat. The females were arrested and taken into custody.
Further investigation determined the truck to be stolen. Additional involved parties were located inside the lounge and were also arrested and taken into custody.
A 31-year-old male of Lloydminster, Alta., a 27-year-old male of Edmonton, a 31-year-old male of Onion Lake, Alta., a 24-year-old male of Lloydminster, a 23-year-old female of Onion Lake and 26-year-old female of Lloydminster are all jointly charged with offences that include the following:
- Possessing property obtained by crime over $5000
- Possessing property obtained by crime under $5000
- Possession of Prohibited Weapon

The 31-year-old male of Onion Lake
- Possession of weapon while prohibited (4 counts)
- Breach of release order (3 counts)
- Possess controlled substance
- Drive while Prohibited
The 27-year-old male of Edmonton
- Possession of weapon while prohibited
- The 23-year-old female of Onion Lake
- Possess weapon for dangerous purpose
- Breach of release order
- A 31-year-old male of Lloydminster
- Possession of weapon while prohibited
A 31-year-old male of Lloydminster, and a 23-year-old female were also arrested on warrants for their arrest at the time.
A 23-year-old female and 24-year-old male of Lloydminster were all released by way of Undertaking to next appear in Vermilion Provincial Court on March 21, 2022.
Following a judicial hearing, the 31-year-old male of Lloydminster, 31-year-old male of Onion Lake and the 27-year-old male were remanded in custody to speak to bail in Vegreville Provincial Court on Jan. 24, 2022.
