RCMP Street Level Drug Units (SLDU) seize drugs; two people arrested

The PEI RCMP has arrested and charged a 41-year-old man and seized various drugs, weapons, and drug trafficking paraphernalia as part of an ongoing investigation in Mount Stewart, PEI.

On January 31, 2022, the Kings and Queens Districts' Street Level Drug Units (SLDU), with the assistance of the RCMP Police Dog Services, obtained and executed a search warrant at a residence on Main Street in Mount Stewart. During the search, police seized quantities of what are believed to be methamphetamine, cocaine and psilocybin mushroom, as well as digital scales and drug paraphernalia. Weapons were also seized, including replica firearms. A 41-year-old man from the community was arrested at the scene.

On February 2, Andrew James Myers was charged with possession of cocaine and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on February 14.

A 61-year-old man from Mount Stewart was also arrested at the scene for unrelated matters and later released.

"This investigation has resulted in harmful drugs being taken off the streets of Mount Stewart and surrounding areas," says Sgt. Leanne Butler of the Kings District RCMP. "This achievement highlights the success of the combined forces model for drug trafficking enforcement in our area. With the Kings and Queens Street Level Drug Units now in place and working side by side, we strengthen our commitment to combating drugs and weapons offences on the Island and making our communities safer."

The public plays an important role in helping to reduce, prevent and solve crime, including the trafficking of illegal drugs. Anyone with information about, or who suspects suspicious activity in their neighborhood is asked to contact their local police. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
