RCMP continues drug investigation and executes search warrant on residence in Torbay, two women and one man charged with multiple offences

A quantity of cocaine, methamphetamine, a large amount of cash, drug paraphernalia, high end jewellery, a shotgun and a stun gun, were located and seized by RCMP following the search of a vehicle and a Torbay residence on January 27, 2022.
A quantity of drugs, firearms, ammunition and other items, were seized by RCMP from a residence in Carbonear on January 7, 2022.

Two women and one man are facing a number of criminal charges following a drug-trafficking investigation conducted by RCMP. Thirty-eight-year-old Jonathan Delaney of Carbonear and thirty-year-old Alicia Gilbert of Torbay, were arrested by RCMP yesterday, as part of the investigation that involved the search of a residence in Torbay.

The RCMP investigation, led by the East District General Investigation Section (GIS), into suspected methamphetamine trafficking in the Harbour Grace region, began in April of 2021. As part of the investigation, Delaney and 25-year-old Shacara Hoddinott-Legrow, were arrested on January 7, 2022, following a search of a residence in Carbonear, where a quantity of cash, drugs and weapons were located and seized. Each were charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of cocaine
  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Careless storage (ammunition)
  • Possession of prohibited weapon (stun gun)

Both were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Harbour Grace Provincial Court on April 20, 2022.

On January 27, 2022, RCMP East District GIS, with assistance of RCMP officers from Avalon and Trinity Conception area detachments, Federal Serious and Organized Crime Unit, Police Dogs Services and Digital Forensic Services, along with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, continued with the investigation. Alicia Gilbert was arrested at a planned traffic stop in St. John's and was found in possession of drugs and a large amount of cash. At the same time, officers searched a residence on Indian Meal Line in Torbay. Between the search of the vehicle and the residence, approximately three ounces of cocaine, half an ounce of methamphetamine, approximately $35,000.00 in cash, drug paraphernalia, two vehicles, high end jewellery, a shotgun and a stun gun, were located and seized.

Alicia Gilbert is charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Careless storage of a firearm
  • Possession of proceeds of crime (two vehicles)

In addition to the charges listed above, Jonathan Delaney, who was arrested at the Indian Meal Line residence, is charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking

Both Gilbert and Delaney are scheduled to appear in St. John's Provincial Court on April 26, 2022.

The investigation is continuing.
