Man charged following hit and run

A 45-year-old man from Moncton, N.B. has been charged following a hit and run involving a cyclist in the community.

On August 21, 2022, shortly before 11 a.m., members of the Codiac Regional RCMP and Ambulance New Brunswick responded to a report of a hit and run collision between a car and a cyclist near the intersection of Morton Avenue and Mascaret Street. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, and the cyclist was transported to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

On August 25, police arrested a 45-year-old man from Moncton in connection with the investigation.

On August 26, Michael Duncan Paul Hutchins appeared in Moncton Provincial Court by way of tele-remand, and was charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm.

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on August 30 at 1:30 p.m. for a bail hearing.

The RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance. The investigation is ongoing.
