The Codiac Regional RCMP recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested a suspect within a half-hour of the original report, in Lakeville, N.B.
On September 22, 2022, at approximately 10 a.m., the Codiac Regional RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle stolen on the corner of Queen and Robinson Streets, in Moncton. Workers had parked a company pickup truck nearby while attending a work site, when an individual entered the vehicle and drove away.
Less than 30 minutes later, shortly before 10:30 a.m., members of the Codiac Crime Reduction Unit located the vehicle in Lakeville, near Moncton. The truck entered a dead-end road followed by police cruisers with emergency lights activated. The suspect attempted to flee, and his vehicle collided with two police cruisers, before stopping. A 31-year-old man from Notre-Dame, N.B., was arrested at the scene. No one was injured.
On September 23, Jean-Claude Mason appeared in Moncton Provincial Court by way of tele-remand and was charged with theft of a motor vehicle. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on September 27, at 1:30 p.m., for a bail hearing.
