Clermont man charged with criminal negligence causing death, drug trafficking

An 28-year-old man from Clermont, PEI, has been charged following an investigation into a sudden death, and drug trafficking in the community.

On March 29, 2022, police responded to a report of a sudden death at a residence in Burlington, PEI. When police arrived, they located a 27-year-old man who was deceased at the scene. The Prince District JFO Drug Unit began an investigation into the mans death, and identified a person of interest.

On October 20, police arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with the investigation at a residence in Clermont. Subsequent to the arrest, police executed a search warrant at the residence with assistance from the PEI RCMP Federal and Serious Organized Crime Unit, and PEI RCMP Major Crime Unit. During the search, police seized what is believed to be more than 900 hydromorphone tablets, money, and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

On October 21, Evan Anchikoski appeared in Summerside Provincial Court, and was charged with:

  • Criminal negligence causing death
  • Trafficking hydromorphone
  • Trafficking benzimidazole
  • Trafficking benzodiazephine
  • Possession of hydromorphone for the purpose of trafficking

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on November 2, at 9:30 a.m., for a bail hearing.

The Prince District JFO Drug Unit is comprised of members from the Prince District RCMP, Summerside Police Services, and Kensington Police Services.

The public plays an important role in helping to reduce, prevent and solve crime, including the trafficking of illegal drugs.
