Second individual charged with nine offences including attempted murder in connection with Mountain Road shooting

A second individual has been charged with nine offences including attempted murder following a shooting incident that occurred on Mountain Road in Moncton, N.B.

On November 3, 2021, at approximately 8:45 p.m., members of the Codiac Regional RCMP responded to a report of a shooting outside a bar on Mountain Road. A 28-year-old man suffered a gun shot wound and was transported to hospital with serious injuries. Nobody else was injured during the incident. The next day, police arrested an 18-year-old man in relation to the incident.

On November 6, members of the Codiac Regional RCMP arrested a 24-year-old Moncton man on Paul Street in Dieppe as part of the investigation.

Colton Benjamin Stiles appeared in Moncton Provincial Court by way of tele-remand on November 7 and was charged with attempted murder and was remanded into custody. He appeared in court on November 10 and was charged with:

  • attempted murder
  • aggravated assault
  • discharging a firearm with intent
  • unsafe storage of firearm
  • unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • unauthorized possession in motor vehicle
  • possession of weapon obtained by crime
  • weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization

The previous charge laid on November 7 for attempted murder was revoked.

Colton Benjamin Stiles was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on November 17.
