On Friday, March 5th, 2021, Stratford RCMP with the assistance from Queens District RCMP officers, the RCMP's Police Dog Service, the RCMP's Major Crime Unit, the RCMP's Tech Crime Unit, Criminal Intelligence Services PEI and Charlottetown City Police Service, executed a search warrant relating to drug trafficking at a property in Mermaid, PEI.
As a result of the search, police seized thousands of methamphetamine tablets and hydromorphone pills, LSD (acid), a significant amount of cannabis and cannabis edibles, approximately 500,000 illegal cigarettes, over 50 boxes of fireworks, two replica firearms and approximately $15,000 in cash.
Scott Frederick Gallant of Mermaid was arrested at the scene and was remanded into custody.
Mr. Gallant appeared in court on June 6th and entered guilty pleas on charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the Excise Act, the Tobacco Tax Act and the Fire Prevention Act. Mr. Gallant received a total of 39 months in jail and fines totaling nearly $900,000.
In addition to the jail time and fines, Mr. Gallant was also issued a Forfeiture Order, a Firearms Prohibition Order and was ordered to submit his DNA for inclusion on the national DNA Database.
