Joint Traffic Enforcement Initiative sees over 40 tickets issued

Antigonish County District RCMP, in partnership with Northeast Traffic Services, Antigonish By-Law Officers and Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Inspectors, conducted a joint traffic enforcement initiative in Antigonish resulting in over 40 tickets being issued.

On October 21, the initiative focused on road safety, including compliance of taxis and vehicles emitting excessive noise from modified muffler systems, Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Inspectors setup an inspection station on Post Rd. in Antigonish while RCMP and By-Law officers conducted enforcement activities in the area. Some vehicles that were stopped were ordered to report to the inspection station on Post Rd.

As a result of the initiative and enforcement activities, 23 Summary Offence Tickets were issued, some of which were for excessively noisy mufflers and illegal window tint. 12 vehicles were ordered to report for inspection of which 11 failed. All 11 were given 10 days to rectify the deficiencies and submit to another inspection.

On November 4, traffic enforcement and inspection activities resumed and as a result 21 Summary Offence Tickers were issued, some of which again were for excessively noisy mufflers and illegal window tint. 34 vehicles were ordered to report for inspection, of which 20 failed. All 20 were either given 10 days to rectify the deficiencies and submit to another inspection, or were taken out of service altogether.
