A 65-year-old man, who was stopped for speeding on December 21, 2021, by Corner Brook RCMP, is under investigation for drug-impaired driving.
On Tuesday, police were on patrol on route 450 near the community of York Harbour and observed a truck traveling 94 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver showed signs of drug impairment. He tested positive for cannabis on roadside drug screening equipment and was arrested for impaired driving. The man was transported to Western Memorial Regional Hospital, where blood samples were obtained. Officers await the results of the testing to determine if charges of impaired driving are appropriate.
The vehicle was seized and impounded and the driver received a license suspension. In addition, the man was ticketed for speeding under the Highway Traffic Act.
The investigation is continuing.
