Alberta RCMP Major Crimes investigate sudden death in Grande Prairie

On June 13, 2021, at 6:10 a.m., Grande Prairie RCMP were called to assist the Grande Prairie Fire Department with a dumpster fire in the downtown area.

Grande Prairie RCMP attended the scene, and it was believed there were burned human remains in the dumpster.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes have taken over carriage of this investigation and attended the scene. Grande Prairie RCMP, along with Grande Prairie RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS), RCMP Forensic Identification Section and the Fire Investigator have also assisted with this investigation.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit's investigation have identified the deceased as an adult female. No further details regarding the deceased will be released at this time. An autopsy is scheduled at the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on June 15, 2021.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit, along with the Grande Prairie RCMP GIS continue to investigate this sudden death.

Grande Prairie RCMP are currently on scene at 99 Street and Resources Road conducting an investigation.

RCMP are asking the public to avoid the area. There is no safety risk to the public.
