The following message is on behalf of the New Brunswick RCMP, the Canada Border Services Agency, the New Brunswick Department of Justice and Public Safety and Emergency Measures Organization, the Lamèque and Shippagan Fire Departments, and Ambulance New Brunswick:

As first responders, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the people of the Lamèque region for their assistance during the recent search and recovery operation there.

Last Thursday, police began searching for a missing 29-year-old man from Ste-Marie-St-Raphaël. His body was located and recovered from the water between Haut-Lamèque and Lamèque on Sunday.

Throughout this tragedy, we felt the community rally behind the family and first responders. We are grateful for your support, your compassion, and your kindness and generosity.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the victim's family and loved ones, and ask you to keep them in your thoughts at this difficult time.
