Yellowknife RCMP, together with the NWT Coroner Services, confirm missing Sladjana Petrovic, 60 years-old, was located, deceased, on May 1, 2020.
At approximately 9:10 pm, May 1, Yellowknife RCMP responded to a call for service regarding the location of a deceased person in Yellowknife.
Officers attended the scene, and confirmed a deceased person had been located just off the Pat McMahon Frame Lake Trail, in a wooded area.
The NWT Chief Coroner has identified the person as Sladjana Petrovic, who went missing in Yellowknife December 26, 2019.
Sladjana was reportedly last seen on December 26 at approximately 3:40 pm, in the downtown area. RCMP began a missing person investigation on December 27, when she was reported missing.
The missing person investigation was led by investigators with the Yellowknife RCMP General Investigative Section (GIS). They were supported by the NT RCMP Police Dog Services, Yellowknife RCMP and resources from other units as required.
extensive search for Sladjana was launched, and the downtown core was canvassed. Yellowknife Ground Search and Rescue (YKGSAR) and Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA) were engaged and provided many hours of support in the search for Sladjana. The RCMP thanks them for their service.
The RCMP continued to communicate with Ms. Petrovic's family abroad and her friends here in Yellowknife on the progress of the investigation.
"Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Sladjana as we bring this news forward. We hope there will be some closure for them now" states Inspector Alex Laporte, Yellowknife RCMP Detachment Commander.
Yellowknife RCMP are supporting the NWT Coroner Services in their investigation. NWT Coroner Services has ordered a post mortem examination.
