Whitehorse RCMP investigate threat against City of Whitehorse employee

On Wednesday, April 1st, 2020, at approximately 11:00 am, members of the Whitehorse Detachment RCMP were called to a report of a man uttering threats to cause death to a City of Whitehorse employee over the telephone.

Following further investigation, RCMP attended the Porter Creek residence where the accused resided. An unattended vehicle with the engine running was located parked in the driveway; a loaded long gun with ammunition was on the front passenger seat. Officers secured the vehicle and firearm while proceeding to set up containment on the property.

Shortly thereafter, the accused, Robert Charles Bruce, exited the rear of the residence and was arrested by RCMP. The scene was secured while awaiting a search warrant in the interests of public safety. RCMP executed the search warrant on the residence that evening and seized a large number of restricted and non-restricted firearms and ammunition as evidence to the offence.

Mr. Bruce has been charged with the offences of uttering threats to cause death pursuant to section 264.1(1)(a) and unsafe storage of firearms pursuant to section 86(2) of the Criminal Code. Mr. Bruce appeared in court the afternoon of April 2nd, 2020 and was released on conditions.

Whitehorse RCMP, with the assistance of Whitehorse General Investigation Section, are continuing in their efforts to investigate this matter.
