RCMP investigating several thefts of vehicles, owners advised to lock car doors, Richibucto, N.B.

The Southeast District Crime Reduction Unit is investigating a dozen thefts of vehicles along with other break and enters into property that have occurred over the last three weeks.

The vehicles, include cars, SUVs and trucks, were taken from several communities in Kent County including Saint-Antoine, Bouctouche, Notre-Dame, Sainte-Anne and Richibucto. Most of the thefts happened during the overnight hours, often when the vehicle was parked in the owner's driveway near their house or garage. In many of the incidents, the vehicle doors were left unlocked and keys left in the vehicle.

"This is a crime of opportunity and takes just seconds for someone to jump in a vehicle and take off, if the doors are open and the keys are left in the vehicle," says Cpl. Ricky LeBlond, Richibucto RCMP. "We are asking vehicle owners to make sure the keys are removed and doors are locked to prevent this type of crime from happening."

During the same time period, police also responded to four complaints of break, enter and thefts from buildings and thefts from vehicles. At this time, there is no indication that any of these occurrences are linked.

Anyone with information about these crimes are asked to contact the Richibucto RCMP at 506-523-4611. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), by downloading the secure P3 Mobile App, or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.
