Just before midnight on May 29, 2020, Burin Peninsula RCMP officers were conducting a check point in the Town of Burin when they observed an approaching vehicle suddenly attempt to turn onto another road in what was believed to be an attempt to evade police.
Shortly after, the vehicle was stopped and the driver a 36-year-old man from Red Harbour was suspected to be impaired by alcohol. He failed a roadside breath test, was arrested for impaired driving and was transported to the Detachment in Marystown where he provided breath samples that were over the legal limit.
Police seized and impounded the truck. The man, who did not have a driver's licence, faces charges of impaired driving and was issued a driving suspension. He was released from custody to attend court at a later date.
RCMP NL continues to fulfill its mandate to protect public safety, enforce the law and ensure the delivery of priority policing services in Newfoundland and Labrador.
