At approximately 10:25 pm on Saturday, November 15th, 2019. Rankin Inlet RCMP were dispatched to a report of an ATV driving at a high rate of speed, not stopping for stop signs and driving recklessly around town. The same ATV was also witnessed by Rankin By-Law Officers driving with three people on it, which exceeds the lawful limit of two riders.
RCMP immediately located the ATV and arrested the driver for impaired driving after failing the road side screening device.
A 20-year-old male from Rankin Inlet, NU is facing impaired driving related charges after he failed additional breath tests, where he blew over the legal limit. The driver is scheduled to appear in court date on February 10, 2020 in Rankin Inlet.
The Nunavut RCMP wish to remind the public of the dangers of impaired driving and the dire consequences that often result from operating a vehicle while impaired. The public should take note that the National Impaired Enforcement Day is scheduled for December 7th and check stops will be conducted throughout the territory.
