On Feb. 2, 2018 at approximately 4:00 p.m., Viking RCMP were alerted to a theft of an ATV in progress. A citizen in the rural Viking area observed a suspicious vehicle in his neighbour's yard, and saw the vehicle leaving as well as another male driving an ATV from the property.
The citizen was able to direct RCMP to the location the males were spotted, and police were able to arrest both suspect males. The suspect on the ATV attempted to flee briefly, but was stuck in snow.
Viking RCMP have charged a 32-year-old male, of Killam, Alta., and a 33-year-old male, of Sedgewick, Alta. with one count under the Criminal Code of theft over $5000.
The 32-year-old individual was released by a Justice of the Peace, to appear in Vegreville Provincial Court on Feb. 12. The 33-year-old individual was released by police to appear in Vegreville Provincial Court on March 5, 2018.
Viking RCMP would like to thank the local citizens that assisted police in locating the two involved suspects. The assistance of the public goes a long way towards crime prevention efforts in our communities across Alberta.
