Fatal head-on crash near Thorburn Lake claims the life of a woman and injures two more people

On September 11, 2018, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Clarenville RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle head-on collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near Thorburn Lake.

The driver of one of the vehicles, a 76-year-old woman from Grand Falls-Windsor, died at the scene.

Two occupants in the other vehicle were injured and taken to Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville. A woman in that vehicle has been since released and the man was transported to the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's and remains in stable condition.

Police Dog Services were called to the scene to assist with a search, as there were initial concerns that an occupant may have been ejected. A search was completed, confirming there were no other occupants.

A collision analyst from RCMP Traffic Services attended the scene and conducted an investigation. Alcohol is not a factor in this crash and the investigation is continuing.
