Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy 2020-2021
1. Introduction to the Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy
The 2016-2019 Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS) presents the Government of Canada's sustainable development goals and targets, as required by the Federal Sustainable Development Act. The RCMP adheres to the principles of the FSDS, and while not bound formally by the Act, supports reporting on the implementation of the Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy.
2. Sustainable development in the RCMP
The RCMP's Departmental Sustainable Development Strategy for 2017 to 2020 describes the department's actions in support of achieving low-carbon government. This supplementary information table presents available results for the departmental actions pertinent to this goal. Previous years' supplementary information tables are posted on the RCMP's website.
3. Departmental performance by FSDS goal
The following tables provide performance information on departmental actions in support of the FSDS goals listed in section 2.
Context: Low-Carbon Government
The Policy on Green Procurement supports the Government of Canada's effort to promote environmental stewardship. In keeping with the objectives of the policy, the RCMP supports sustainable development by integrating environmental performance considerations into the procurement decision-making process through the corresponding departmental actions indicated in this supplementary information table.

4. Report on integrating sustainable development
During the 2019-20 reporting cycle, the RCMP had no proposals that required a strategic environmental assessment (SEA) and no public statements were produced.
The RCMP will continue to ensure that its decision-making process includes consideration of FSDS goals and targets through its SEA process. An SEA for policy, plan, or program proposals includes an analysis of the impacts of the given proposal on the environment, including on relevant FSDS goals and targets.
Achieving the goals listed above demonstrates the RCMP's commitment towards the environmentally responsible acquisition, use, and disposal of goods and services.
Green procurement and sustainable development policies and practices continue to exist within the department. Activities during the 2019-20 reporting cycle included engaging stakeholders by communicating RCMP goals and monitoring progress while looking for opportunities to further integrate sustainable development and environment considerations into procurement planning and decision-making. Future changes to policies and practices will be reviewed and incorporated into internal policies and practices, subject to operational requirements.
