The guiding principles of the RCMP are its core values which are woven throughout the Cadet Training Program in all subjects, including Drill. Sessions emphasize teamwork, collaboration, attention to detail, respect, proper etiquette and protocol. This is also known as deportment.

RCMP cadets generate ideas, have discussions and take part in lectures about how deportment directly links to serving with excellence. Being professional and displaying proper deportment is a foundation of our service. It is the first impression that our police officers provide in the field. In relation to uniform, ensuring it is worn correctly is important not just for appearance, but ensuring all parts of kit are available to aid during a call for service.

Concepts also link to bias-free policing. Cadets come from all different backgrounds to form a troop. Lessons focus on accepting each other's differences and working in cooperation toward a common goal. Cadets are assigned troop duties. These include being a troop liaison, joining one of the various committees, playing in the Depot band and other duties. With all the moving parts during training, cadets quickly learn that everyone has a role to play and working together and respecting each other makes the troop stronger. This prepares cadets for the field. In each posting they will have during their careers, they will work with new colleagues, people from all backgrounds, different partners and diverse communities.

Cadets stand together looking forward. Some cadets are wearing Stetson hats and one wears a navy turban.
