The RCMP provides traffic services in every corner of the country, from ice roads to grid roads to major highways. As with many police skills, it all begins at Depot.

In addition to the track and practice drives, cadets take part in many traffic scenarios. These include speeding, impaired driving and serious collisions. Like in real life, traffic scenarios vary in complexity. They may be as simple as issuing a traffic warning, to more complex calls that involve multiple vehicles or even dangerous persons. These scenarios test a cadet’s ability to operate an emergency vehicle, investigate, respond to potential injuries or safety hazards and determine the appropriate next steps.

Members will respond to traffic calls no matter the posting. The RCMP operates a variety of highly skilled and technologically advanced traffic teams in the country. Specialized traffic units include collision reconstruction, motorcycle patrol and integrated traffic enforcement teams.
