Colour the Cruiser

Yukon RCMP road safety initiative Colour the Cruiser took place across the Yukon last week with elementary school students learning about road and pedestrian safety while drawing on their local RCMP police vehicles.

"We took the kids out the class room for an engaging lesson centred around road safety," says Corporal Natasha Dunmall, Yukon RCMP Traffic Services. "The fact that they got to colour on police vehicles made the event more exciting for the youth, and really allowed us to talked to kids in a dynamic way."

The coloured cruisers were parked in school zones and driven around the community.

"Our police vehicles become a roving billboard of sorts, to remind all motorists that school is back in session. At this time of year, it is especially important to remember that children will be waiting for buses and walking to and from school, and speed limits in school zones are in effect again," says Corporal Dunmall.
