The Nova Scotia RCMP has safely arrested Stephen "Dakota" Maloney who was wanted on multiple warrants for firearms and driving offences. He is now facing new charges, including possession of property obtained by crime.
On July 31, Cumberland County District RCMP executed search warrants at homes in Birchwood and Hansford. Eight people were arrested at that time. A ninth person, Dakota Maloney, remained at large, and a province-wide warrant was issued for his arrest.
On August 23, investigators learned that Maloney was at a home in Little Dyke. Based on Maloney's history of fleeing from police and possessing weapons, a variety of police resources were deployed to execute an arrest, including Colchester County District RCMP General Investigative Section (GIS), Nova Scotia RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Police Dog Services (PDS), and other support units, in order to ensure public and police safety.
When police attended the residence, Maloney initially attempted to flee on foot, but he was quickly located and arrested.
Maloney, 33, of Millbrook, is facing new charges of Being Unlawfully in a Dwelling House and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, in addition to charges related to previous arrest warrants. He appeared in court and was remanded in custody, pending future court appearances.
