Two men arrested following drug trafficking investigation

A 83-year-old man from Shippagan, N.B., and a 46-year-old man from Shippagan, N.B., have been arrested following a drug trafficking investigation in the northeastern region of the province.

In January 2023, members of the New Brunswick RCMP Northeast Crime Reduction Unit began an investigation into the trafficking of illegal drugs in the Shippagan area.

On March 27, 2024, police executed search warrants at two separate locations in Shippagan as part of the investigation. During the searches, police seized unsecured firearms and a crossbow, as well as ammunition and a large amount of money. Police also seized quantities of what is believed to be crystal methamphetamine, cocaine and Percocet, as well as various types of prescription pills, and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

A 83-year-old man, and a 46-year-old man were arrested at the scene. The 83-year-old was later released and is scheduled to appear in Bathurst Provincial Court on September 23, 2024. The 46-year-old man will be scheduled to appear in Bathurst Provincial Court on a later date.

The public plays an important role in helping to reduce, prevent and solve crime, including the trafficking of illegal drugs. Anyone with information about, or who suspects, illegal drug activity in their neighbourhood is asked to contact their local police.
