On April 11, 2024, at approximately 4:40 am, Red River North received a report of a vehicle driving eastbound in the westbound lane of the Perimeter Highway near Lagimodiere Boulevard. Officers headed to the area. Shortly after the initial call, a second call was received about a motor vehicle collision at that location.
When officers arrived, a pickup truck was located in the westbound lane. It had been travelling in the wrong lane when it crossed over the median from the eastbound lanes and then crossed the westbound lanes, colliding with a concrete divider on the roadway at what appeared to be a high rate of speed. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, a 34-year-old male from Winnipeg, was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation has determined no other vehicles were involved in the collision. Officers continue to investigate to determine the cause of the crash.
