On February 22, 2024, at approximately 12:35 pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of a stabbing outside an apartment building on 1st Street Northwest in Portage la Prairie. When police arrived on scene, a male was located suffering from a stab wound. Emergency Medical Services arrived and transported the injured 31-year-old male from Piapot First Nation in Saskatchewan to local hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

Investigation determined the victim and a 34-year-old female from Portage la Prairie were waiting for friends outside the apartment building when a vehicle pulled up. The female went to talk to the female driver of the vehicle. A male came out of the apartment building and engaged the victim. That is when the victim was stabbed. The suspect entered the vehicle and fled the scene.

Austin Wieler, 26, and Keitlyn Delmage, 26, both from Portage, were arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault. Both are appearing in Portage la Prairie provincial court on February 23, 2024.
