Pictou County District RCMP charge two people in relation with a home invasion

Pictou County District RCMP has charged two men involved in a home invasion that occurred in Durham.

On April 9, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Pictou County District RCMP responded to a report of a home invasion at a residence on West River Dr. RCMP officers learned that two men had forced their way into the home and assaulted the three occupants, a 62-year-old man, a 30-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman. Before fleeing the scene, the suspects damaged vehicles parked in the driveway.

At the scene, one of the victims recognized the suspects and provided their names to the officers.

The two males were located and arrested without incident a short time later.

Jared Hugh Sutherland, 23, has been charged with:

  • Breaking and Entering Committing Offence
  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm (two counts)
  • Mischief (two counts)
  • Theft
  • Overcoming resistance to commission of offence
  • Uttering Threats

Nathan David Gormley, 26, has been charged with:

  • Breaking and Entering Committing Offence
  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm (two counts)
  • Mischief (two counts)
  • Theft
  • Assault
  • Uttering Threats

Both men, from the Pictou area, were held in custody and appeared in Pictou Provincial Court on April 11 before being released on conditions by the court. Both men will be back in Court on April 29, 2024, at 9:30 a.m.
