Update: On April 14, 2024, 70-year-old Alphonse Daigle appeared in Moncton Provincial Court by way of tele-remand, and was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the homicide. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on April 16.

Man arrested following shooting incident

A 70-year-old man from Pointe-Sapin NB, has been arrested following a shooting incident in the community.

On April 13, 2024, at approximately 2:04 p.m., members of the Richibucto RCMP responded to a report of shots fired at a residence on Route 117, in Pointe-Sapin. When police arrived at the scene, a 52-year-old man was discovered deceased. No one else was injured during the incident. A suspect, a 70-year-old man from Pointe-Sapin, N.B., was quickly located and detained with the assistance of a Peace Officer from Parks Canada. He was subsequently arrested for murder in connection with the investigation.

The 70-year-old man is schedule to appear in Moncton Provincial court on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

The New Brunswick RCMP's Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation, treating the incident as a homicide.
