Following a lengthy stand off with police, 35-year-old Dean Rumbolt was arrested by RCMP in Gander last evening, November 28, 2024.
Late Thursday morning, Gander RCMP responded to a report of an assault and property damage. Rumbolt was identified as the accused. Police attended his residence at an apartment complex on Bennett Drive in Gander. Rumbolt presented himself at the door and was informed of his arrest. He refused to exit the home and blocked access.
RCMP officers from Gander and Glovertown detachment remained outside the residence while a warrant to enter the home was obtained. Residents on the same floor of Rumbolt's apartment were evacuated as a precaution. A public advisory was issued on social media.
RCMP NL's Emergency Response Team, a Crisis Negotiator and Police Dog Services attended the scene.
Shortly after 7:30 p.m., Rumbolt surrendered himself to police and was arrested without further incident.
He attends court today, charged with the following criminal offences:
- Assault
- Mischief under $5000.00 (property damage)
- Uttering threats
- Obstructing a police officer
- Breach of Probation
The investigation is continuing.
