News release

A 22-year-old man is facing impaired driving charges following a single-vehicle crash that occurred on May 6, 2024.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m., Forteau RCMP received a report of a single-vehicle crash on Route 510 between the communities of Capstan Island and West St. Modeste. A commercial vehicle departed the road. The lone occupant was transported to Labrador South Health Centre for treatment of minor injuries. The man refused treatment and departed the clinic on foot prior to police arrival. With assistance from paramedics, the man was located by police and showed signs of alcohol impairment. He was arrested.

At the detachment, the man refused to provide breath samples. He was later released from custody and is set to appear in court in July, 2024, to answer to charges of impaired driving and refusing to comply with a breath demand. The man's licence was suspended.

Forteau RCMP continues the enforcement of impaired drivers. If you suspect an individual is driving while impaired, please contact your local police immediately or call 911.
