Channel-Port aux Basques RCMP responds to suspicious activities, stolen vehicle recovered; drugs and firearm seized

Two individuals, 36-year-old Kory Kinden and 38-year-old Krystal McCormack, both of New Brunswick, were arrested by Channel-Port aux Basques RCMP on June 5, 2024, following the report of suspicious activities in Port aux Basques.

During the early evening hours of Wednesday (June 5, 2024), police received a report of suspicious activities at a commercial property in Port aux Basques. Officers located the described vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle, Kinden, was unlicensed. During the traffic stop, police determined that the attached licence plate did not belong to the vehicle and further determined that the vehicle was reported stolen from PEI on May 17, 2024.

Both occupants were arrested. Following the arrest, officers located a quantity of methamphetamine, a prohibited weapon, drug paraphernalia and other evidence consistent with drug trafficking. The vehicle was seized. The pair attended court on Thursday and were remanded into custody.

In continuing the investigation, on Saturday, June 8, police executed a search warrant at a hotel room which had been occupied by the two arrested individuals. Inside the room, officers located and seized a sawed-off shot gun, which had a modified hand grip, a quantity of ammunition, opioids, and a further quantity of methamphetamine.

The two will appear in court again on June 11, 2024.

Kory Kinden is charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.00
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – opioids
  • Careless use/storage of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Operating a vehicle without a driver's licence
  • Use of fictitious plate or marker

Krystal McCormack is charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.00
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – opioids
  • Careless use/storage of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Fail to produce driver's licence
  • Use of fictitious plate or marker

The investigation is continuing.
