News release

Bay St. George RCMP is continuing the enforcement of impaired drivers. Between April 26-29, 2024, police stopped three motorists and issued licence suspensions.

In St. George's on April 26, police observed a man operating an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on a road without a helmet and attempted a traffic stop. The operator, a 48-year-old man, failed to stop for police. He was located and arrested outside his residence and showed signs of impairment. Back at the detachment, the man provided breath samples that were more than twice the legal limit. He was released from custody and is set to appear in court at a later date to face charges of impaired driving.

On April 28, police received a report of a suspected impaired driver in West Bay. The described vehicle was located in Kippens and a traffic stop was conducted. The driver, a 47-year-old woman, showed signs of alcohol impairment and failed a roadside breath test. Back at the detachment, she provided breath samples that were just below the legal limit. The vehicle was seized and impounded.

Shortly after midnight on April 29, police received a report of a single-vehicle crash on the Trans-Canada Highway near Jeffreys. Officers attended the scene where the driver, a 31-year-old man, showed signs of impairment and was provided a demand for a roadside breath test. The driver refused to provide a sample. He is set to appear in court at a later date to face a charge of refusing to provide a breath sample. The vehicle was seized and impounded.

Impaired drivers place themselves and all others who share the roadway at increased levels of risk of serious injury or death. If you suspect a motorist may be impaired, please immediately report the information to your local police or 911.
