42-year-old man and 57-year-old woman die following two-vehicle collision

A 42-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman, both from Penobsquis, N.B., have died following a two-vehicle collision in the community.

On February 13, 2024, at approximately 6 a.m., members of the Sussex RCMP detachment responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Route 114 in Penobsquis, N.B. The driver and sole occupant of the first vehicle died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The driver and sole occupant of the second vehicle was transported to hospital where she later died as a result of her injuries.

The collision is believed to have occurred when the vehicle travelling eastbound encountered a mechanical issue which caused the driver to lose control, colliding with a second vehicle travelling westbound.

Members of the Penobsquis Fire Department, Ambulance New Brunswick, and an RCMP collision reconstructionist also attended the scene. A member of the New Brunswick Coroner's Office is assisting with the investigation.

Police are asking anyone who lives in the area and witnessed the collision, has security camera footage from the time of the incident, or has information regarding this incident to contact the Sussex RCMP Detachment at 506-433-7700. The investigation is ongoing.
