17-year-old boy dies following single-vehicle crash

A 17-year-old boy from Campobello Island, N.B., has died following a single-vehicle crash in the community.

On March 22, 2024, at approximately 11:20 p.m., members of the St. Stephen RCMP detachment responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Highway 774 in Wilsons Beach on Campobello Island. The driver of the vehicle was transported to hospital with serious injuries. A 17-year-old passenger, and only other occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Members of the Machias Emergency Health Service, and Campobello Fire Department, Ambulance New Brunswick also attended the scene. An RCMP Collision Reconstructionist and a member of the New Brunswick Coroner's Office are assisting with the ongoing investigation. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the man's exact cause of death.
