On December 4, 2023, at approximately 4:45 pm, RCMP on patrol attempted to stop a vehicle on Main Street in Dauphin.

The vehicle refused to stop and began to drive erratically. Due to safety concerns officers did not pursue and alerted other officers to be on the lookout for the vehicle.

Officers from the Yellowhead area set up a spike belt along Highway 10, south of Onanole.

The suspect vehicle went over the spike belt and eventually went into the ditch. Two occupants exited the vehicle and began running on foot.

A female occupant was arrested a short distance away but the male driver continued to flee. Officers contained the area and Police Dog Services attended. Police Service Dog Marook tracked the suspect through difficult terrain including high grass, swamps and wooded areas. The suspect was arrested without incident. He was suffering from exposure and was checked on scene by Emergency Medical Services.

Dakota Tripp, 31, has been charged with Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Prohibited, Flight from Peace Officer and Resisting Arrest. He was also wanted on several warrants. He was remanded into custody.

The passenger, a 27-year-old female, is facing charges of Resisting Arrest and Possession of cocaine. She was released on an Undertaking with an upcoming court date.

Dauphin RCMP continue to investigate.
