News release

Three youth were located and brought home safe after getting lost and encountering a medical emergency in the woods in Tracadie Cross, PEI.

On March 28, 2023, at approximately 8:00 p.m., members of the Queens District RCMP, Island EMS and East River Fire responded to a report of three youth who had gotten lost in the woods in Tracadie Cross, with one suffering from a serious but non-life-threatening injury.

A number of specialized policing services, including RCMP an unmanned aerial vehicle operator (UAV), and RCMP Police dog services were deployed, and successfully located the three youth a short time later. Police used their Blue Force Tracking, a digital tracking system of police locations, to guide the RCMP Emergency Medical Response Team (EMRT) to treat the youth in a remote location. The youth received medical treatment and all three were transported to hospital and later released.

"The excellent police work by everyone involved, and the use of the Blue Force Tracking technology contributed to a quick and positive resolution to this incident," says Cst. Gavin Moore with the PEI RCMP. "The three youth were located and able to return home safely in a timely manner."
