On November 12, 2023 at approximately 3:15 a.m., Waskesiu/Montreal Lake RCMP received a request to assist EMS at a residence on Montreal Lake Cree Nation.
Officers immediately responded and located an injured adult male, who was pronounced deceased by EMS at the scene. He has been identified as 41-year-old Kevin Stewart from Montreal Lake Cree Nation. His family has been notified and victim services made available to them.
An adult male was arrested without incident at the scene.
As a result of subsequent investigation by Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes, 29-year-old Walker Smith from Montreal Lake Cree Nation is charged with one count, second degree murder, Section 235(1), Criminal Code and one count, uttering threats, Section 264.1(1)(a), Criminal Code.
Walker Smith is remanded into custody until his scheduled appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court on November 14, 2023
