The West District RCMP has recovered a number of stolen items following the execution of a search warrant in Utopia, N.B.

In the morning hours of July 25, 2023, members of the West District RCMP executed a search warrant at a property on the 800 block of Route 785 in Utopia, in connection with an ongoing investigation. As a result of the search, police recovered a boat and trailer, a number of industrial and commercial power tools and batteries, rolls of copper wire, marine equipment, firearm ammunition, a number of edged weapons, oxygen and propane tanks, and electronics. The recovered items are believed to be associated to a number of previously reported thefts on both Deer Island and the mainland areas of Charlotte County.

A 35-year-old man, who was already in custody in relation to this investigation, will be appearing in court on July 27 at 9:30 a.m.

The New Brunswick RCMP is committed to intelligence led policing, and this investigation is the latest in a series of police actions aimed at reducing property crimes in the communities in Western New Brunswick.

"It is important to report property crime and stolen items to police as soon as possible, as often times, police can associate recovered property with the theft in which it was taken and return it to it's owner," said Sgt. Chris Henderson with the West District RCMP. "Unfortunately, when it is not reported, it can be harder for the police to determine where suspected stolen property came from."
