As part of an on-going investigation into a sexual assault, the RCMP East District General Investigation Section (GIS) executed a search warrant at a residence on Valley Road in Conception Harbour last night (April 26, 2023) and arrested 50-year-old Joseph Lewis.
Inside the home, officers located and seized a quantity of cocaine and other items consistent with drug-trafficking, as well as items of evidentiary value to the sexual assault investigation.
Lewis was held in custody overnight and attends court today. He is charged with the following criminal offences:
- Sexual assault
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking
To protect the identity of the victim, further details of the investigation are not being made public. Police believe it is possible there may be other victims of sexual assault who may not have reported.
The investigation is continuing.
