RCMP advising public of recent illegal border crossing attempts

February 2, 2023
New Brunswick, New Brunswick

News release

The New Brunswick RCMP is advising the public of recent attempts to illegally cross between the Canada and United States border.

The New Brunswick RCMP has a dedicated Border Integrity team who is responsible for monitoring and investigating all border matters along the international border between New Brunswick and Maine. The Border Integrity team is assisting the US Border Patrol with their ongoing investigation into recent attempts to illegally cross the border.

"The international border between our province and Maine is composed of farm fields, dense forestry, and bodies of water," says Cpl. Hans Ouellette of the New Brunswick RCMP. "During the winter, when people attempt to cross the border at non-controlled locations they risk getting lost in the wilderness and being exposed to inclement weather."

Police are encouraging members of the public to report any suspicious activity along the border to their local police. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.
