Whitehorse RCMP is attending a plane crash at the Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport involving an RCMP aircraft.
On April 17, 2023, at approximately 11:40 am, police were notified of a plane crash at the airport. The plane involved is an RCMP aircraft. One RCMP employee was on board during the crash and they have been extracted safely and are being treated for injuries. Identity of the person involved will not be shared.
At this time, police do not believe that criminality is involved and Yukon RCMP will assist the Transportation Safety Board of Canada as the lead investigating body.
Further information will be provided when available. The airport was temporarily closed due to the emergency and is now open.
