Pembina Valley RCMP respond to assault with chainsaw

On August 28, 2023, at approximately 1:25 pm, Manitou RCMP responded to an assault at a residence in Somerset.

It was reported that a suspect had broken into a home and used bear spray and a chainsaw to assault a male.

Immediately officers attended and located the victim, a 36-year-old male, injured. The suspect, who was known to the victim, had fled the scene.

The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A short time later officers located the suspect and he was arrested without incident. A mini-electric chainsaw was recovered and seized by police.

Frank Solcan, 73, has been charged with Aggravated Assault, Breaking and Entering and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.

He was remanded into custody.
