Missing person: Update on search for Derek Kruger

The RCMP is continuing to ask for the public's assistance to locate 78-year-old Derek Kruger who was last seen at a gas station in Antigonish on September 29.

Since October 4, 13 Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) teams from Colchester, Pugwash, East Hants, Springhill, Halifax Regional, Musquodoboit Valley, West Hants, Eastern Shore, Sheet Harbour, Straight Area, Valley, Lunenburg and Pictou County have conducted an extensive search in the Greenfield, Colchester County area where his red Mazda Miata was located on a logging road. More than 2000 volunteer hours were incurred and over 100 km. of dense woods, trails and roadways were searched. RCMP Police Dog Services were involved throughout. Department of Natural Resources and Renewables also assisted by providing helicopter services searching by air over the 4 days.

The search efforts in this area were suspended Saturday evening October 7 but may be reactivated if new leads or information is brought forward.

Derek Kruger is described as 5-foot-4, with brown hair, wearing glasses and a hearing aid.

The investigation is ongoing. There is no indication of criminality at this time.

When someone goes missing, it has deep and far-reaching impacts for the person and those that know them. We ask that people spread the word through social media respectfully.
