Happy Valley-Goose Bay investigates use of counterfeit currency, seeks assistance identifying woman

Update: The female suspect has been identified. Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP thanks the public for their assistance.

Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP is currently investigating the reported use of a counterfeit $100 bill at a local business in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

On the morning of February 19, 2023, police received the initial report of a woman making a purchase with a counterfeit bill. The same woman returned to the business later in the day and attempted to use another counterfeit bill, which was not accepted. The woman, who is not known to police or employees of the store, departed the property.

Passing counterfeit bills is a criminal offence. The RCMP reminds businesses to be diligent when accepting large bills. To learn about the security features on bank notes, visit the Bank of Canada's website https://www.bankofcanada.ca/banknotes.

The investigation is continuing.
