Grande Prairie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) conducted an investigation into recent break and enters to a local business located at 119 Avenue and 100 Street, Grande Prairie on May 22 and 23.
The investigation led officers to a suspect and subsequently CRU was able to execute a search warrant at residence associated to the suspect. Evidence from the search warrant connected the suspect and another to several other business break and enters that occurred from late April to mid-May in Grande Prairie.
A 24-year-old individual, Dakota Belcourt (24), a resident of Hythe, Alta., has been charged with the following:
- Breaking and entering with intent to commit theft x4
- Breaking and entering and committing x2
- Mischief under $5000 x2
- Theft over $5000 x2
- Theft under $5000
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a restricted/prohibited firearm without a licence
- Break and Enter with intent to steal a firearm
A 39-year-old individual, Allan Cloutier (39), a resident of Grande Prairie, has been charged in relation to the break and enter on May 23, 2023 with the following:
- Break and Enter with intent to steal a firearm
- Possession of a restricted/prohibited weapon without a licence
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Mischief under $5000 x 2
- Theft over $5000
- Fail to comply with release order
Following a judicial interim release hearing, the 24-year-old individual was remanded into custody to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on July 5, 2023. The 39-year-old individual has been remanded into custody to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on July 12, 2023.
